Welcome to my site!

I am an astrophysicist, currently on a tenured appointment at the Netherlands Institute for Space Research (SRON) through the Women In Science Excel (WISE) Fellowship program of The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).

In addition to this, I have also been appointed as a visiting scientist at Leiden University, and I am an affiliate member of the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe at the University of Tokyo, Japan.

Prior to my current appointments, I spent five years at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Sciences of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and four years as an Einstein Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (KIPAC) at Stanford University, after having completed my PhD research at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching, Germany.

My main research interests are related to the physics of the hot plasma in clusters of galaxies, the largest virialized objects in the universe.

This is my professional homepage. Check out my travel photography and popular astronomy blog at earthinpink.com!

  1. Hi Aurora saan, my name is Caroline. I am a journalist. I write for Asia Times. I will be covering a lot of Japan and space science stories too. Please let me know if you would be interested in sharing insights. Thank you.

    • Dear Caroline, thank you for the message and I am very sorry to reply so late, I rarely log into my wordpress account unless I have updates to my CV. I am happy to discuss science news if you are interested, please send me an email (see “Contact” info above, in the right-hand column of this page)!
